Where Have You Put God in Your Life?

Is your life crazy-busy? Are you constantly focused on a job, family, and other commitments? Is a lack of time your biggest obstacle to spending time with God? With the Coronavirus, our lives have changed and maybe yours has slowed down, or as with others, your life may have sped up, caring for others, home-schooling your children, or working from home.

Somewhere in your day, however, try to find some time, if even for just a few minutes, to talk to God. However you see God, you must spend time to know him to grow closer to him as you would anyone. The more you come to know Jesus, the more you fall in love with him.

Talking to God is a form of prayer. It is a direct straight line, a one-on-one connection from our heart to God’s heart. Pour out your heart to him. Tell him your fears, worries, and frustrations. Share the joys of the day with him and talk of the people you love. Tell him how excited you are about something, or the thing that hurts your heart like you would a best friend. Thank him for the beauty you see in his creations including in the faces of the people around you.

What if God spoke these words to you: “Come sit with me for just a few minutes. Tell me what is troubling you, your hopes, your needs, and how your day has been. Enjoy being with me as I love being with you.” God wants not only your love, but he wants you to bring everything to him. He wants to BE your everything.

Once I was teaching a class of 15-16-year-old students, and one of the girls came up to tell me about a problem she was having. I asked her if she had prayed about it. She said, “No, I don’t want to bother God with it. I can take care of this one myself.”

Are we like that sometimes? Do we think God is too busy to listen to our small worries and needs? Does it have to be something really big, or can we only ask for certain things? Sometimes when we talk to God, we may wonder if he really heard us or will even answer.

God does indeed hear every word we say to him, every concern we have. He wants not only our biggest worries and concerns, but also our smallest ones. If you can learn to bring him your smallest concerns, then when the big ones emerge, you will know to immediately bring them to your God. He is your greatest source of all that is good, and your only source of strength, hope, and comfort.

Try to find those moments each day to talk to God, the one who loves you and always wants you close to him.
