As you come to know God more, you will become more aware of your purpose in life and why you are here. From the moment we are conceived, our path begins, and the moment someone knows we are in the womb, we begin to change their paths as they prepare for a new little soul. We are not an accident or a random occurrence. God knows us and loves us as if we were his only child. He has given us each a mission, a purpose for being here that he has given to no one else. This is not our home. We don’t belong to this world. We belong to God.
God needs us at this specific time in the world as a part of his master plan. Simply by being who God created us to be, we are making an impact in the world. All that we are and all that we do, help to form us and how we affect other people. We are a member of the Body of Christ for in Christ, we are all brothers and sisters. In one sense, we all have the same mission, and that is to love God, to love one another, and to bring each other to God. However, our individual paths are unique, for God has us fulfilling our mission in all different ways. He has already prepared our path for us, and given each of us our body as a temple to use upon the earth. He then equipped us with specific gifts and talents, and all we need. As we follow our path, God teaches us many things and all he teaches us, we are to use to help others.
Our paths are like roads. All roads lead to the Father, but they may go in different directions. Some have roads that are long with much to see along the way. These roads may be smooth and peaceful, but at other times can be bumpy and quite difficult. These are the long roads of people who live many years upon the earth with much to learn and to share with others. Sometimes a person’s road is short. They live a short time upon the earth, but their path is still great as are all paths. Even a stillborn baby had an important path upon the earth. Their short life affected their family, and all who were involved with their little soul in some way.
With such an important path in our lives, we may worry we are making the wrong kind of impact in history, for we all sin, and we all make mistakes. However, we cannot dwell on our faults, for there is a mighty power at work within us. Paul tells us in Ephesians 3:20 if we pray every day to the Holy Spirit, we will be able to “accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine.” And Jesus prayed to his Father for us, saying in John 17:18, “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.”
If we love God, he knows the desire of our heart is to please him. We can then pray for the graces to follow the prepared path he has given us. As we pray for guidance, we strive to open our hearts, and listen to what we are to do and to learn. We have only to say “yes” to be his disciple, and he will multiply all that we do. As we become God’s servants and his instruments of love, we have the power to touch the hearts of others in ways we sometimes may not even realize. God’s Holy Spirit is at work within us, so do not be surprised who he may send your way or what may happen each day. We have a wonderfully creative and amazing God who loves us beyond our greatest imagination, and who needs us to bring others to him.
